According to Google's Andy Rubin, you will now be able to upgrade your current Android OS to the latest Ice Cream Sandwich, Android 4.0 by November.

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich should begin appearing on existing Android smartphones 'a matter of weeks' after the Samsung Galaxy Nexus goes on sale in November.

Andy Rubin didn’t specify which Android OEMs were expected to push out this upgrade 1st, but did suggest that the delay between the 1st official Ice Cream Sandwich Googlephone & others getting to enjoy the new platform would be minimal.

But manufacturers like HTC & Samsung introduce their own customizations to differentiate the OS & then they need to be tested, that checking process is unlikely to be any quicker this time around, but it seems Google is a lot faster now with releasing the Ice Cream Sandwich tools & source code.
